Project Spark Goes Offline for Good After Today

Back in May, Microsoft announced that it had cancelled Project Spark, at which time it also stopped allowing people to download the free Xbox One and PCgame. Online services were kept up and running for a few months, but after today, August 12, the game will go completely dark as it relates to online support.

"Without services, players will no longer be able to download user-generated content or upload their own creations," Microsoft said in May when announcing the shutdown.

Players who want to access user-generated content offline needed to download the content before August 12, according to the shutdown notice.

Though the game is shutting down its services, no layoffs occurred at Microsoft as a result, apparently. The game had transitioned to a completely free modellast year and many of the game's developers had moved on to other games.

"This was an extremely difficult decision for our team that we do not take lightly," community manager Thomas Gratz said in May.

Project Spark was the game that brought the foul-mouthed squirrel, Conker, back to Xbox consoles. However, before all of it could be released, the Conker DLC was cancelled when the game went completely free.
