Linkin Park New Album 2016: Mike Shinoda Calls Eighth LP ‘Insane,’ ‘Very Powerful!’

Linkin Park co-frontman Mike Shinoda continues to tease fans and share updates about their upcoming new album; on Feb. 9, the rapper and DJ wrote a note dishing details and progress on their eighth LP.

"Hey everyone! We're hard at work making some new music for you," Mike Shinoda wrote (via Radio.com). "The six of us have been more than enthusiastic about how this album is shaping up, and I'm happy to share this update!"

"As usual during an early age, we don't know a ton about where the songs will end up," he added. They change shapes over and over during the writing process, and we usually write a dozen of songs, which push each other in and out of contention for a spot on the final album."

Shinoda said further that what makes their new album unique, so far, is the process of making it. According to him, when they were starting as a band, they often started making songs according to the "musical track" and no vocals until the end of the process and that the vocals are usually forced into the existing chords and song structure.

"Over time, we've started incorporating vocals earlier and earlier in the process, usually in the form of skat "la la la" vocals and gibberish words. Many of those demos have been shared as a part of our LPU albums," he said further.

"But this time, we decided to go even further, and write more 'traditionally.' We're starting with the most fundamental parts of the songs, the words and vocal melodies and completely fleshing out those ideas before we begin working out the music," he added, saying that right now, the concept and the words of the song are what comes first.

This new approach, accordingly, is paying off. Shinoda said that as a result, their new music is "really powerful" and what shines through are the stories and emotional content of the songs.

"This album is going to be insane, and we're looking forward to taking you on the journey as we make it," Shinoda finally said.

Previously confirmed is that the new album of Linkin Park will be out later this year.
